Grants & Collaborative Research Expertise Unit

The Collaborative Research & Grants Unit focuses on an invisible part of science: How do you go from an idea to a funded project?
Text

We begin with an assessment of the idea’s feasibility and identification of the most appropriate funding agency.

Text

We then work with researchers to develop and guide the research proposal, including an outline of the proposed project, the methodologies to be employed, the timeline, the budget, and any other relevant information.

Text

We ensure that all of the necessary documentation is in place and that the grant application is of the highest quality. We also provide guidance on how to respond to any feedback from the grant review committee.

Text

Finally, we provide advice on how to manage the research project and approach post-award duties such as scientific reporting, data management, and ethical approval.

The Collaborative Research Unit strengthens the ties within VIB-UAntwerp CMN and reaches out. With projects co-led by multiple investigators from CMN and PhD students and postdocs receiving dual mentorship, we invest inwardly in a close-knit and open community. Expertise at CMN plays a crucial role in multiple international consortia across Europe and the United States.

Useful Resources

GDPR compliance

All research that makes use of primary or secondary personal data has to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). To achieve this, the University of Antwerp keeps a registry on “Ethics & Data management”, to be filled in for each research project. Guidelines and examples are available on request.

Human data

Our researchers often make use of human data. The expertise unit provides advice on how to receive, store, process, publish, upload in a repository, and share human datasets. The guidelines provided by VIB help you to determine which datasets are to be regarded as anonymous, which ones are still subject to the GDPR, and what the consequences of this are.

GrantsQuest

VIB GrantsQuest is an internal tool developed to be your single stop for information on future and ongoing grants. Keep track of your ongoing projects, identify new opportunities, and efficiently communicate on this centralized grants management platform. The expertise unit uses information in GrantsQuest to compile data for easy reporting and identifying new strategic goals.
